THE CONSENT
[[Pro 1:10]] KJV My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.
The above is advice from Solomon, the wisest man in antiquity, and also the son of David. He admonished us not to consent to the enticement of sinners. This suggests two important things.
- Sin wants to entice us, and we must be vigilant. Entice means TO LURE or TO ATTRACT BY AROUSING DESIRES AND HOPES. There are desires in you that your flesh wants to engage in. And even though you are born again, sin will try to arouse the desire in you to engage in those activities. This explains why God said to Cain that sin desired to have him.
[[Gen 4:7]] KJV If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
Notice the way God concludes in the above: He told Cain that he should “rule over sin.” Many times, God’s people become victims of sin because they mystify sin. The truth is that as a child of God, you can rule over sin. Romans 6 says, “For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace” *(Rom 6:14). You can rule over the wrong habits and the sin that easily beset you. Sin is NOT in charge; you are!
- The second important thing to note is the power of our consent. Consent means TO EXPRESS WILLINGNESS or TO GIVE PERMISSION TO SOMETHING. You see, the power of sin is in its ability to entice, but it can have no power over you without you EXPRESSING WILLINGNESS to indulge or GIVING PERMISSION TO it. Nothing happens in your life without your permission.
So don’t be controlled. Be in control. Today, sin will try to entice you but refuse to give it attention or permission. You’re the boss! Stay in charge! And make heaven proud!
Prayer:
Blessed Father, I thank you for your goodness in my life. Thank you also for your grace that gives me dominion over sin. I live above sin. I deny sin the power to control my life. Through your grace, I dominate sin in my life. And I walk in and manifest your righteousness in and through me in Jesus’ name. Hallelujah!
