THE ENTICEMENT DESIRES
[[Jas 1:14]] KJV But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
Temptation is simply an attraction to an enticement. It’s important to know that as believers, we are involved in a real battle. The devil has a mission. His assignment is to destroy you. But the truth is that he has no power to destroy you. Therefore, he focuses on using your own power to destroy you. This is through temptations.
In the above, James cautious us that every man (including you) is tempted when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Lust simply means desires. It’s the things that we desire that destroys us. If a Christian is therefore going to be victorious, he must not watch the devil, he must watch his desires. It’s only what you want that can entice you.
For example, a Christian is likely to be easily destroyed by other ‘Christian’ or ‘harmless nice people’ than the obviously sinful. The reason is that the later do not entice them. Many have done terrible things because of people they met in church than when they were in the world. This is why you must watch your desires. They are indicators. Harmless people have caused more harm than the harmful.
Thank God however for the gifts Holy Ghost. They are the means by which we live triumphant over temptation. For example, through the gift of discernment, we can tell who to walk with and who to avoid. These gifts were not only given to minister in church with: they were given to us by the Holy Ghost to live a victorious everyday life. Hallelujah! Check your feelings.
Prayer:
Lord help me make the right choices. I follow your leadings and Spirit. I yield to your promptings. I walk wisely, overpowering the flesh with all watchfulness, living everyday to please the Master in Jesus’ name.
