THE PRICE OF WRATH
[[Pro 19:19]] KJV A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if thou deliver him, yet thou must do it again.
Wrath is hot anger or accumulated anger. It’s not wrong to be angry when you have to. Nevertheless, it’s destructive to stay angry. In Ephesians, Paul admonished us, “Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:” *(Eph 4:26). So angry becomes sin when it’s sustained for a long time. And wrath is sustained anger.
When we keep anger in us, it degenerates into wrath, and the wrath of man contradicts God’s righteousness. The wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God (Jas 1:20). Any word we speak or decision we take in anger is a contradiction to God’s will for us. This is why we must overpower wrath. In our opening text, the Bible said, “A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment…”
Please notice that the reason for the wrath is not justified. The word says a man of wrath shall be punished (whether he’s right or wrong). So, being in the place of wrath has no advantage. It’s difficult for others to help you because you’ll cause them to do the same things over and over again if you don’t tame your angry. The New Living Translation puts it this way:
[NLT] Proverbs 19:19 Hot-tempered people must pay the penalty. If you rescue them once, you will have to do it again.
The Amplified says, “A man of great wrath shall suffer the penalty; for if you deliver him [from the consequences], he will [feel free to] cause you to do it again.” It’s difficult to help people who feel free to repeat the same mistakes. To break free from wrath is a personal decision. Your decision will determine your discretion and good sense, which will ultimately make you overlook even those who offend you. This is how you restrain yourself from being angry.
[AMP] Proverbs 19:11 Good sense makes a man restrain his anger, and it is his glory to overlook a transgression or an offense.
Anger is destructive, so destroy it before it destroys you. Train yourself to see differently and allow the love of God in you to guide your senses in Jesus’ name.
Prayer:
Father, I thank you for your love today. I make a quality decision to make the right adjustments to keep myself free from wrath. I walk in love, dispensing it everywhere I go in Jesus’ name.
