THE JOY OF A PASTOR
[[3Jn 1:4]] KJV I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
John writing to the church pens down the most beautiful words that captures a pastor’s heart as it relates to his members. First, he reveals that the greatest joy of a true pastor is to see his children walk in the truth. Nothings else brings joy to the heart of your pastor than to practice the word of God.
This is very important because Hebrews 13 shows us that this makes it possible for your pastor to do his work “with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you” (Heb 13:17). Train yourself to walk in the truth. And be excited to practice the word of God as you are taught.
The next thing you see in the above is the fact that John called his members ‘my children.’ When you join a local church, see yourself as a child. Allow yourself to be raised and trained as a child would. This doesn’t mean you are not smart to make your own decision. It is actually a great sign of humility. And that’s God’s order. Jesus told us that the way to greatness in the kingdom is by being a child (Mat 18:3).
The church is a family. It’s like a father and son relationship. We have all become part of the big beloved family of God (Eph 1:6) . When you humble yourself to be led as a child, you get the blessing of pastoral care and healthy godly guidance. And this is God’s strategy and way to help you fulfill His purpose for your life. Glory to God!
Prayer:
Dear LORD, I thank you for your love and word. I receive the wisdom and humility to remain a child and follow joyfully. I flourish as I follow. I walk in submission to your order in the church. Thank you for showing the way of meekness and greatness in Jesus’ name.
