EXERCISING YOUR CONSCIENCE
[[Act 24:16]] KJV And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men.
A child of God is called to a life of glory. We are called to manifest the virtues and perfections of Christ. We are already made the righteousness of God. But ultimately, what fills our conscience dictates ourlives. The mind makes the man. This is why we need to train ourselves to master our conscience.
Your conscience is your inner faculty that evaluates your thoughts, motives, decisions, and actions as right or wrong, producing either inner approval or inner accusation. Your conscience is not necessarily the voice of God.
The Bible shows us that a person’s conscience can be Good (1 Tim 1:5), Defiled (Tit 1:15), Weak (1 Cor 8:7), Seared (1 Tim 4:2), and Cleansed (Heb 9:14). That means conscience can be trained, influenced, damaged, or misinformed. When you train your conscience with the word of God, it can have the same witness as God.
This is why Paul in the above said he exercise himself to ALWAYS have a conscience void of offence. You can live a life full of glory, void of offence, hatred, bitterness, or any such thing when you allow the word of God to train your conscience.
The word exercise is ‘askeo’ in Greek which means, to train or take pains. It denote the discipline and sacrifice of training. Train yourself to always listen to mesaages. Expose yourself to the word by not missing services. Do your quiet time daily and deeply meditate on it to assimilate it. This is how to train your conscience and live a life of victories. Glory!
Prayer:
Dear LORD, I love your word. I delight greatly in your truth. I declare that my conscience is cleansed by and saturated with your word. I walk in the same witness, triumphing everyday in Christ in Jesus’ name.
