THE PARADOX OF THE FORTY JEWS
[[Act 23:12]] KJV And when it was day, certain of the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul.
Forty Jewish men bound themselves under a curse to neither eat nor drink till they have killed Paul because Paul came preaching about the grace of God. The above reveals to us two important thing: the first is the strength of religion.
Religion is very powerful, and people can die or kill for it. These Jews in their religion, without personal relationship with God, were willing to either die or kill to protect what they believed. We must understand that Christianity is not a religion. In Christ, we have personal relationship with the Living God.
The second thing you find in the above is that these forty Jews were incredibly zealous about their religion. Their zeal was even unto death. As I reflect on their actions, one thing comes to mind; what if the believer in Christ was this passionate about reaching the lost?
Think of the lives that will be touch, transform, saved and blessed if we charge ourselves with such zeal, not eating or drinking, till we see our family, friends and community saved by the power of God. As you read this devotional, may the LORD ignite greater passion in your heart for the lost. May our hearts burn with fresh zeal to see all men saved. Hallelujah!
Prayer:
Precious Holy Spirit, I thank you for awakening fresh zeal in me through your word. Please ignite passion in my heart for the lost. Let my heart ceaselessly burn to see all men saved in Jesus’ name.
