THE INNER STRUGGLE

[[Gal 5:17]] AKJV For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that you cannot do the things that you would.

Every child has an ongoing battle within him or herself. This not a battle with devils and evil spirits: that fight is already won for us by Christ. We need not fight the devil because he is a defeated foe *(1Jh 4:4). All we do with him is to enforce our already won victory over him. Glory to God!

Notwithstanding, all of God’s people are called into a fight: the fight to conquer the flesh. You see, your spirit is saved but the flesh is not. And so long as we live in this flesh, the desires our flesh will continue to contend with that of the spirit. It’s called the conflict of interest. Spiritual desires and carnal affection are fighting to have you.

This is why you can sometimes do unthinkable things after a strong spiritual encounter. The above scripture says, “For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other…” And to overpower the flesh, we must walk in the spirit.

Paul’s puts it this way, “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh” *(Gal 5:16). To walk in the spirit means engage your spirit in all that you do. Train yourself to follow your spirit. And you achieve this by spending more time praying in the spirit and meditating on the word. As you do, your spirit gains the mastery over your flesh. Hallelujah!

Prayer:
Thank you Lord for your word. I choose to walk in the spirit. I engage my spirit in my walk in this life, making decisions and choices by the leadings of the spirit in Jesus’ name.
