THE EFFECT OF PRIDE

[[Oba 1:3]] KJV The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground?

Pride is a very dangerous thing. And has hindered many great destinies. Great ministries have been aborted, and gifts are terminated because of pride. Proverbs shows us that “Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall” (Pro 16:18). This means, anytime you see pride, the next thing you will find will be destruction.

In the above, God rebuked Esau about his pride. Three things are key to note in the above. First, pride deceives the heart of the proud. A proud person’s heart is deceived to think he has no faults or he’s never wrong. Proud people think they are always right. This is why it’s difficult to even help them; their heart is deceived.

The next thing is that a proud person says things in his heart. When you talk to them, they speak back in their heart. Sometimes, they may not be able to boldly talk back. But in their hearts, they say things. Watch your heart and what you say in your heart when you are corrected, rebuked, or instructed.

Finally, Say said in his heart, “Who shall bring me down to the ground?” Is it not amazing that certain people think they can’t be brought down? Proud people think they are above everyone. They make statements like, “Do you know who I’m?” Even when they know they are nothing. Dear friend, don’t allow pride in your heart. Do everything you can to always fight off pride.

Pride proceeds destruction (). God resists the proud (). God hides His secrets from the proud (Ps 31:20). Pride binds like chains (Ps 73:6). When pride comes, shame follows (Pro 11:2). Contention comes only through pride (Pro 13:10). A man’s pride shall bring him low (Pro 29:23). We can go on and on. As you walk with God, walk away from pride. That’s how to keep your destiny in God.

Prayer:
LORD, I thank you for your word today. I ask for your help to remove every pride in me. Help me to walk in humility. Please help me to please you and reject pride in Jesus’ name.
