GIVING YOURSELF TO PRAYER AND FASTING
[[1Co 7:5]] KJV …yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.
In the above, Paul admonished us to give ourselves to prayer and fasting. There are three important things to note in the above. First is, we must deliberately give yourselves to prayer and fasting. Don’t isolate yourself when the church is called to pray and fast. Many don’t see the importance of these Spirit calls.
Secondly, we must come together. During prayer and fasting, there must be togetherness. Apart from the blessings of unity of the brethren especially in prayer *(Ps 133:1-3), bitterness, hurt, and hatred must be removed from our hearts also. We must forgive other and come together. This ensures the free flow of the supernatural in our lives. Glory to God!
Bitterness, envy, hate and the like, block the valve of love through which faith for the supernatural flows. Faith that produces results must work by love *(Gal 5:6). This explains why Jesus admonished us: “And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any…” *(Mar 11:25).
Finally, prayer and fasting gives you the discipline, which makes it impossible for Satan to tempt you through incontinency. Incontinence is the lack of self-control. Fasting is a discipline. And it keeps you from polluting yourself. Illicit sex and all manner of filth can be curbed through fasting. Glory to God!
This is why we must give ourselves to prayer and fasting. Don’t cultivate the bad attitude of staying away from fasting. Don’t just attend the prayer and fasting meeting: prayer and fast in reality. Hallelujah!
Prayer:
Dear God, through the light of your word, I give myself to prayer and fasting. I let go everything, and consecrate myself for your use through prayer and fasting in Jesus’ name.
