PRAYER AND THE WORD
[[Act 6:4]] KJV But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.
The place of prayer and the word of God is so important and cannot be emphasized enough. The apostles of old knew the potency of prayer and the word, and they give themselves to it. Two things are key in our theme scripture:
- THE APOSTLES GAVE THEMSELVES TO PRAYER AND THE WORD. Many times people don’t pray because they fail to give themselves to it. Prayer will not come to you naturally. Prayer is work. In the same way the word will not come to you easily. We must willingly give ourselves to prayer and the word.
I’ve been born again since 1990 and I’ve prayed all through the years but there always seem to be difficulties almost all the time because the flesh always comes between. To breakthrough, we MUST GIVE OURSELVES to prayer and the word. The way to pray is by praying. And to know the word, you must know the word. So if you don’t give yourself to it, it’ll not come to you.
- CONSISTENCY. Notice that the apostles give themselves CONTINUALLY to prayer and the word. This is where the challenge is. Many times, we want an easy way out. The power of prayer and the word is in consistency. We must continue in it. We must “Pray without ceasing” *(1Thes 5:17). And faith can only come by “hearing, and hearing…” *(Rom 10:17). The power is in consistency.
Make time to pray. Don’t be too busy not to pray and attend to the word. Set a special time in the day to pray and study the word. Jesus did same. The apostles did it, and you cannot be different. Mske time to listen to messages daily. The power is in prayer and the word. So give yourself continually to it. Glory!
Prayer:
Father I thank you today. I receive your word with meekness and joy, and I make a quality decision from today to give myself to prayer and the word continually. I thank you now because your word is alive and working in me in Jesus’ name. Glory to God.
