THE ENIGMA OF HIS SACRIFICE

[[Tit 2:14]] KJV Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

In the above, the Apostle Paul tells us very important reasons why Jesus have Himself as a sacrifice for us. Jesus gave Himself (thus, died) for us in order to accomplish three most important things for us. 1. To redeem us from all iniquity. Redemption is ransom or riddance from consequences.

Jesus’ death cleared us from the effect of all iniquity. In the bible, sin and iniquity are closely related, but they emphasise two different aspects of wrong doings. Sin usually refers to the sin of Adam by which we all became sinners. Iniquity on the other hand, points to our twisted and lawless acts of sin. Simply put, iniquity refers to sins we personally commit apart from Adam’s original sin. Jesus’ death notwithstanding, redeems us from all our iniquities.

  1. Jesus died to purify unto Himself a peculiar people. ‘Purify’ is the Greek ‘Katharizo’ which means, to make clean. Like the Levitical priest will declare a man clean after he is purified from something unclean, Jesus’ death cleanses us from all sin and makes us a peculiar (special above all people) to God. Think about it? You are priceless to Jesus! Hallelujah! Guilt and condemnation must not echo in your ear anymore no matter where you may fall.

Finally, Jesus’ gave Himself to make us zealous unto good works. Guilt and sin is what weakens our zeal. But Jesus took that out of the way. Yes, you may fall into some sin, but you must know that you are redeemed from its effects, and are made special to God. The revelation of this truth is what sparks burning zeal in us to serve God will boldness and passion. Glory to God! So live free everyday!

Prayer:
Dear LORD Jesus, thank you so much for loving me and giving Yourself for me. I receive all the blessings from your sacrifice for me. I declare I’m redeemed from all iniquity. I’m purified and special to God. And I’m full of zeal in my service to God. I love you LORD!!!
