HOW TO HAVE EFFECTIVE FELLOWSHIP WITH GOD
[[1Jn 1:6]] KJV If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
John shows us something very important to guide us as we walk with the LORD. We have the tendency to drift away from the truth. In the above, John shows us how to live in effective and functional fellowship with the LORD always.
First, he tells us that if we say we have fellowship with the LORD and walk in darkness, we lie. When we are in fellowship with the LORD, we don’t walk in darkness. Walking in darkness has to do with a secret and hidden lifestyle. These secret sins affect our fellowship with the LORD. The text is not suggesting that secret sins terminate our fellowship but rather affect it.
The reason why we walk in darkness even when we say we have fellowship with God is because we do not the truth. Note that he didn’t say, ‘We do not know the truth.’ To not do the truth means not practising the truth. Truth is God’s word, ‘…thy word is truth’ (Joh 17:17).
When we practice the word, in other words, when we apply God’s word to our lives, we will not walk in darkness and have hidden lifestyles. Hence, our fellowship with God will be active and living. This is how to have a living relationship and affiliation with Almighty God. Glory to God. Train yourself to always do the word, and you will have a deep and intimate fellowship with God always.
Prayer:
Lord, thank you for your word. I renounce and get rid of all secret sins of darkness in my life. I walk in the light. And I ask that your grace abounds to me, helping me to go deeper in love and fellowship with you in Jesus’ name.
